Aromatherapy
When French chemist, Rene Gattefosse burned his hand in a laboratory
accident in the early 20th century he plunged his hand into the
nearest container of water. It happened to be a container of lavender
essence. The quick pain relief, healing and lack of scaring led
him to experiment with essential oils and modern aromatherapy
was born.
The use of oils has
been practised for thousands of years. Plant essences have been
the mainstay of healing from earliest times. Today's aromatherapist
will utilise that knowledge to maintain their client's health.
Why should
I visit an aromatherapist? I can buy the stuff myself
Simply because much of the stuff you can buy is scent marketed
in a different way. Fragrance is only a part of the therapy. A
professional aromatherapist can choose from a large selection
of carefully sourced, pure oils and has a thorough knowledge of
their uses and individual effectiveness in treating various symptoms.
When you visit an aromatherapist you are seeing someone who has
studied and qualified in anatomy, physiology, and massage as well
as in aromatherapy. The miss-use of oils can be detrimental in
the wrong hands. An aromatherapy experience is holistic. Body
and spirit are interconnected and through an aromatherapy massage
harmony is encouraged between the two.
